Commercial Vehicle Manufacturer Announces $25.2 Million Expansion Project in Middle Tennessee

McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing, Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation [NYSE: OSK] company that manufactures purpose-built commercial vehicles and equipment announced Wednesday that it will invest $25.2 million to expand its manufacturing presence in Middle Tennessee.

According to the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD), the company plans to expand operations at its current Parkway Place facility in Murfreesboro to fabric and weld custom vehicle components.

McNeilus’ expansion plan is expected to create 100 new jobs at the facility, TNECD notes, bringing the company’s total number of employees in Rutherford County to approximately 300.

The expansion plan comes nearly one year after the company announced initial plans to establish operations in Rutherford County, as previously reported by The Tennessee Star. The company’s initial investment was worth over $50 million.

“Nearly one year ago, we announced that McNeilus, an Oshkosh Corporation company, would invest $50 million to expand its Tennessee manufacturing operations, and today, we are building upon that initial investment with the creation of additional new jobs in Rutherford County. Oshkosh Corporation is a brand we are proud to have in the Volunteer State, and we look forward to seeing this company’s continued success in Rutherford County,” TNECD Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter said in a statement.

The expansion project will increase the company’s production capacity and allow for building improvements, updated infrastructure, machinery and equipment to “better support the company’s global customer base.”

“We look forward to growing our footprint in Murfreesboro even further with additional welding and fabrication work for our purpose-built vehicles. This investment will enable us to meet our strategic growth initiatives more effectively, serving the customers who rely on us each day,” added Jim Johnson, executive vice president of Oshkosh Corporation and president of its Vocational Segment.
